Lefkosia The City Guide

THE PARKS Pedieos Linear Park Created in 1999, this linear path runs alongside Cyprus’ longest river. Spanning over 14 kilometres, the park features both walking and cycling paths, which pass through the Presidential Palace Park and end near Pafos Gate. Bridges and beautifully illuminated paths lined with eucalyptus, pine, and palm trees can be found along the way. The park is undergoing a transformation, with the expansion financed by the EU and implemented by the UNDP extending beyond the UN Buffer Zone into the occupied part of Lefkosia. Athalassa National Forest Park This green oasis, located in southeastern Lefkosia, covers an area of 840 hectares. Rich in natural vegetation, it is home to over 500 species of flora and fauna, primarily birds, including more than 170 species of waterbirds. Its 20 km of trails are popular for walking, cycling, and dog-walking. The Athalassa Environmental Education and Information Centre is worth visiting, while the Forest Botanical Garden serves as a living collection of plants, bringing together a wide variety of local and exotic Cypriot species in a compact space.
