41 A. G. Leventis Gallery The A. G. Leventis Gallery showcases European art in Cyprus. Its extensive collections span from the Renaissance to the 20th century and feature Old Masters, Impressionists, Dutch still lifes, Rococo pastorals, Venetian scenes, Pointillist and Fauve works, as well as treasures of Greek and Cypriot art. A rare collection of gold coins provides a fascinating insight into world history and the conception of the gallery’s founder, Anastasios G. Leventis, is evident throughout. Spanning from the late 19th to early 21st century, the collection comprises of around 4000 works. The gallery also maintains artist archives and an art library, and it offers lectures, events and educational programmes. This discovery led to systematic excavations in 1996, which revealed an extensive settlement dating back to the Late Chalcolithic Era (2800–2500 BC). These important findings enriched our understanding of Lefkosia’s history and provided evidence it is the oldest city in Cyprus. The discoveries are exhibited in Ledroi Museum, housed in the Hill’s sole surviving British Rule-era building. It features educational facilities and two museum halls displaying the most significant findings of the excavation.
