Q: Given its long history of olive cultivation and oil production, where does Cyprus stand today? A: A growing number of young producers are developing their agricultural practices in terms of both production and quality by adopting innovative methods. In fact, Cyprus hosted the Terraolivo International Olive Oil Competition in 2024, highlighting the growing international recognition of Cypriot olive oil. Q: What makes Cypriot olive oil unique? A: It has always been considered of excellent quality. Furthermore, the Cypriot Ladoelia variety is one of the most aromatic in the world, giving the oil a distinctive aroma. When processed and pressed correctly, it produces an exceptional flavour profile. Other varieties also thrive on the island. Q: How does it differ from other olive oils? A: There are over 1,100 registered varieties worldwide, each with their own distinctive aromas and flavours. I believe that Cypriot varieties stand out thanks to their unique aromas and flavours. Q: What role does olive oil play in Cypriot gastronomy? A: It plays a starring role in our cuisine, forming the basis of many dishes and cooking methods. It is also deeply tied to Cypriot culture.
