The Pancyprian Gymnasium Museums The Pancyprian Gymnasium Museums, housed in a 12-room building, present the history of Cyprus and of the school. The collections include the Museum of the Pancyprian Gymnasium’s history, archaeological and coin collections, old maps and weapons, a Natural History Museum and an art gallery featuring works by renowned painters who once taught or studied at the school. The collections are completed by the full-length sculpture of the “Blessing Christ,” a unique example of Gothic Art. The Byzantine Museum hosts the richest Byzantine Art collection in Cyprus, with approximately 230 icons from the 9th to the 19th centuries, alongside examples of Cypriot Byzantine minor art, including sacred relics, vessels and vestments. Among its most notable exhibits are the famous mosaics from the Church of Panagia Kanakarias in the village of Lythragkomi, dating back to the 6th century, which were repatriated after being stolen from the occupied part of the island. The Art Gallery is home to a distinguished European Art Collection, acquired in 1963 by Archbishop Makarios III. It displays work from the 15th to the 19th century, featuring landscapes to portraits, Western Art, Greece WALLED LEFKOSIA MUSEUMS with emphasis on works inspired by the Greek revolution of 1821 and landscapes, as well as 20th century Cypriot Art. The museum (est. 1937) boasts more than 5,000 items showcasing Cypriot folk art from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
