17 Lefkosia Municipality Multifunctional Foundation (KEEAED) KEEAED is a non-profit foundation that offers personalised employment and entrepreneurship counselling, aiming to support the development and empowerment of Lefkosia’s local community. Its work focuses particularly on the city’s most vulnerable groups, ensuring equal opportunities for all. Services are available both in person and online, and include workshops, training seminars, skills development sessions, networking activities as well as meetings with specialised advisors. The foundation is housed in a beautifully restored two-storey urban mansion dating back to the 19th century, brought back to life with EU funding. The mansion was built by Nicolas Tsamandas, as a gift to his daughter, Maria. Dr Aristodemos Finiefs, Maria’s husband, had his surgery facilities in the mansion. Dr Finiefs was one of the first highly qualified Cypriot doctors during the late Ottoman period. In subsequent years, the mansion was rented out. During the EOKA liberation struggle for independence from British rule (1955–59), fighters used the building as a fort. Consequently, the building sustained serious damage from bullets and its original wooden doors were removed. Following the Turkish invasion of 1974, Rima Maria Outram, Maria’s granddaughter, generously loaned the property to the Republic of Cyprus and the Municipality of KEEAED Lefkosia, on the condition that it be used for non-profit purposes. With financial support from the EU, the Government carried out extensive restoration works, transforming the mansion into a beautiful building that is now dedicated to supporting and enriching the lives of Lefkosia’s citizens.
