Old Town Hall Nestled within the Lefkosia old town, these historic venues are a part of the capital that proudly preserves its heritage while embracing a vibrant present and an exciting future. Thanks to European Union funded projects, completed and ongoing, Lefkosia’s old town is undergoing significant revitalisation. Each of the three venues, built in different eras, tells a unique chapter from the city’s turbulent yet fascinating past. Old Town Hall Overlooking Plateia Eleftherias (Square), Lefkosia’s Old Town Hall stands on the D’Avila Bastion. This iconic neoclassical building, with its striking marble Ionic columns and surrounding gardens, was constructed in 1930. Originally, it functioned as an entertainment venue known as Luna Park, before later housing the offices of the football club APOEL. In 1944, it was repurposed as the municipality relocated its operations to the building. A major renovation in 1951 transformed its architectural style from colonial to neoclassical, giving it the distinguished appearance it retains today. The following year, in 1952, the mayor’s office officially moved in, marking its new chapter as the permanent seat of Lefkosia’s municipal administration and was formally named the Town Hall of Lefkosia. In 2018, the municipality relocated its operations to the new Town Hall and, ever since, the Old Town Hall has taken on a new role as a venue hosting events. K.
