Instructions to swimmers l Always swim in the prescribed swimming areas, as designated by the red buoys along the coast. l Never use the channels designated specifically for vessels, located vertically to the beach. l Never leave your children swim unsupervised. Especially for children five years old or younger, a close and continuous supervision is needed. It is also necessary for the children to always wear a life jacket or any other kind of personal floatation device. l Prefer beaches supervised by lifeguards, especially when you are accompanied by children. l Avoid swimming after eating or drinking alcohol, especially if less than three hours have passed from your last meal. l Use caution when you dive. Diving headers should be avoided. l Scuba divers should always use a designated red or orange surface buoy (colors that are visible from a long distance). The rope of the buoy must be in a vertical position to the diver. l Windsurfers must always bear in mind that it is possible to be drifted by waves away from the coast, or be tipped over their windsurfing board. l Port & Marine Police continually patrols swimmers areas, and is ready to provide any assistance whenever necessary. General information to the opera- tors of high speed small vessels High speed small vessel is a mechanically propelled vessel of a length not exceeding fifteen (15) meters which can attain a speed of at least fifteen (15) knots. l Jet ski is a high speed small vessel, which is propelled by an outboard engine or an inboard jet propulsion system and which can carry one or more persons either seated or standing up. l Every person who is using a high speed small vessel must have a valid operator’s license issued by the Department of Merchant Shipping after successfully passing the relevant practical and theoretical examinations. l Every person who has completed seventeen (17) years of age may acquire a learner’s license and may operate a high speed small vessel on the condition that they shall always be accompanied by a person who has a valid operator’s license.
