15 LABELS OF TASTE ΛΟΥΚΟΥΜΙ ΓΕΡΟΣΚΗΠΟΥ LOUKOUMI GEROSKIPOU Είναι το πρώτο κυπριακό προϊόν που μπήκε στο μητρώο της ΕΕ το 2007. Η παραγωγή του ξεκίνησε ένα και πλέον αιώνα πριν, συγκεκριμένα το 1895, όταν ο Σοφοκλής Αναστασίου ίδρυσε το πρώτο εργοστάσιο λουκουμιών στη Γεροσκήπου. Έκτοτε ένας ιστορικός δεσμός συνδέει την πόλη με το γλυκό αυτό παρασκεύασμα, ένα από τα παλαιότερα του είδους του στην Κύπρο. Η τέχνη παρασκευής λουκουμιών μαζί με την αρχική συνταγή κληροδοτήθηκε από γενιά σε γενιά μέχρι και τις μέρες μας. Ανάμεσα στις πολλές γραπτές αναφορές στο Λουκούμι Γεροσκήπου (ΠΓΕ) ξεχωρίζουν αυτές του Νίκου Καζαντζάκη στο βιβλίο του «Ταξιδεύοντας» (1926) και του Ι.Μ. Παναγιωτόπουλου στο «Η Κύπρος ένα ταξίδι» (1962). It is the first product of Cyprus that entered the EU registry in 2007. Its production began more than a century ago, specifically in 1895, when Sophocles Anastasiou founded the first Loukoumi factory in Geroskipou. Since then, there is a historic link between the town and this confectionery product – a chewy candy made primarily of sugar – one of the oldest of its kind in Cyprus. The art of making Loukoumi Geroskipou (PGI) using the original recipe has been transferred from generation to generation up to the present day. Among the many written references to Loukoumi Geroskipou (PGI) those of Nikos Kazantzakis in his book “Taxidevontas” (1926) and I.M. Panagiotopoulos in “I Kipros Ena Taxidi” (1962) stand out. ΠΓΕ pgi
