Τα παιδιά λατρεύουν να πετούν πέτρες στο νερό. Μία, δύο, τρεις αναπηδήσεις! Οι μεγάλοι κάνουν το ίδιο, μα κανείς δεν μπορεί να πετάξει μια πέτρα όσο μακριά… όσο ο Διγενής Ακρίτας! Ήταν τεράστιος, δυνατός σαν βουνό. Με ένα πήδημα περνούσε ποτάμια, με ένα σπαθί έκοβε δέντρα. Όταν οι πειρατές πλησίαζαν την Κύπρο, δεν τους φοβόταν. Έσκυβε, άρπαζε έναν βράχο και… ΦΦΣΣΣΣ! Τον εκτόξευε στα πλοία τους! ΠΛΑΑΑΑΦ! Η πέτρα έπεφτε με τόση δύναμη, που η θάλασσα άνοιγε στα δύο. Οι πειρατές έτρεχαν να σωθούν! Λένε πως η Πέτρα του Ρωμιού στην Πάφο είναι μία από αυτές. Όμως δεν είναι η μόνη. Στο Λατσί, στην Κερύνεια, στον Πενταδάκτυλο—παντού υπάρχουν γιγάντιες πέτρες. Και αν σταθείς σιωπηλός, μπορεί να ακούσεις ακόμα τον ήχο τους να πέφτουν… Γιατί όσο υπάρχουν πέτρες, θα υπάρχουν πάντα και ήρωες να τις πετάνε! Children love skipping stones across the water.
