National Strategy on Cyprus Diaspora | 35 The significance of the young generation for the purposes of the National Strategy is undeniable. Therefore, it is necessary to develop specific and innovative actions that will set out to bring young people closer to the Centre and to each other. Through these actions, the aim is to stir up the interest of young people in getting further involved in Diaspora federations and organisations as well as in the internal affairs of Cyprus. Objectives: u Acquaint our young generation with Cyprus through hospitality programmes, exchange visits, internships and academic programmes. u Expand and strengthen the Memoranda of Cooperation with universities in Cyprus for the provision of scholarships to Cypriot expatriates to study in our academic institutions or to attend distance-learning programmes related to the Cypriot and Greek culture. u Advertise and promote more effectively the various programmes offered, through social media and through our organisations. u Strengthen the use of new technologies to facilitate communication with young people. u Encourage the involvement of young people in events taking place within our communities abroad, as well as contact and acquaintance with Cyprus, learning the Greek language, history and culture. u Pursue a more active synergy with local institutions that deal with youth issues such as the Youth Board of Cyprus, and also investigate the possibility for drawing funds from the European Union to support programmes and actions. u Establish a Registry specifically addressed to young people. u Promote actions to enable youth interconnection among either students or young professionals.
