22 COVID-19 – Impact and actions mechanisms that, besides increasing investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy, will also promote job creation, growth, green transition and social resilience. • Preparation of a plan of actions ensuring the continuation of the implementation of Sustainable Urban Development during the pandemic, encouraging the resilience of the public sector by providing amongst others a safe and effective/productive work environment for employees. • An Aquaculture Compensation Scheme for temporary suspension or reduction of production caused by the pandemic was launched in 2020. • The control of illegal fisheries became more efficient because of the restrictions that were applied by the Ministry of Health prohibiting recreational fishing for some months • The Cyprus Climate Change Initiative aims at the development of a Regional Action Plan consisting of appropriate policies and measures to address the specific needs and challenges countries are facing in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern region, ameliorate the impact of climate change and advance mitigation actions in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
