Glyn Hughes 1931 - 2014

73 Glyn says that at this time he had vague ideas about uprights and curves (possibly from Herbert Read’s Icon and Idea or the Piet Mondrian exhibition) and although he was by nature an expressionist, he thought if he went to the Middle East (minarets, domes, or just eros), he would learn more about painting. He had friends from Bretton Hall in Cyprus and furthermore there was another connection – his uncle had died in Turkey in the First World War and his brother had served in Cyprus in the Second. In 1956, he accepted a post at the Junior School in Nicosia.
